Stewardship
We are God's stewards, entrusted by Him with
time and opportunities, abilities and possessions, and the blessings of
the earth and its resources. We are responsible to Him for their proper
use. We acknowledge God's ownership by faithful service to Him and our
fellow men, and by returning tithes and giving offerings for the
proclamation of His gospel and the support and growth of His church.
Stewardship is a privilege given to us by God for nurture in love and the
victory over selfishness and covetousness. The steward rejoices in the
blessings that come to others as a result of his faithfulness.
Genesis 1:26-28; 2:15
(1) 26
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let
them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the
air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping
thing that creeps upon the earth." 27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them. 28
And God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and
fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea
and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon
the earth."
(2) 15
The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and
keep it.
1
Chronicles 29:14
14
"But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able thus to offer
willingly? For all things come from thee, and of thy own have we given
thee.
Haggai 1:3-11
3
Then the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet,
4 "Is it a time for you
yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies in
ruins? 5 Now therefore thus
says the LORD of hosts: Consider how you have fared.
6 You have sown much, and
harvested little; you eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you
never have your fill; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he
who earns wages earns wages to put them into a bag with holes.
7 "Thus says the LORD of hosts:
Consider how you have fared. 8
Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house, that I may take
pleasure in it and that I may appear in my glory, says the LORD.
9 You have looked for much, and,
lo, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?
says the LORD of hosts. Because of my house that lies in ruins, while you
busy yourselves each with his own house. 10
Therefore the heavens above you have withheld the dew, and the earth has
withheld its produce. 11 And
I have called for a drought upon the land and the hills, upon the grain,
the new wine, the oil, upon what the ground brings forth, upon men and
cattle, and upon all their labors."
Malachi 3:8-12
8
Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, 'How are we robbing
thee?' In your tithes and offerings. 9
You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me; the whole nation of
you. 10 Bring the full tithes
into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house; and thereby put
me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of
heaven for you and pour down for you an overflowing blessing.
11 I will rebuke the devourer
for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil; and your
vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the LORD of hosts.
12 Then all nations will call
you blessed, for you will be a land of delight, says the LORD of hosts.

Corinthians 9:9-14
9
For it is written in the law of Moses, "You shall not muzzle an ox when it
is treading out the grain." Is it for oxen that God is concerned?
10 Does he not speak entirely for our sake? It was written for
our sake, because the plowman should plow in hope and the thresher thresh
in hope of a share in the crop. 11 If we have sown
spiritual good among you, is it too much if we reap your material
benefits? 12 If others share this rightful claim upon
you, do not we still more? Nevertheless, we have not made use of this
right, but we endure anything rather than put an obstacle in the way of
the gospel of Christ. 13 Do you not know that those who
are employed in the temple service get their food from the temple, and
those who serve at the altar share in the sacrificial offerings?
14 In the same way, the Lord commanded that those who proclaim
the gospel should get their living by the gospel.
Matthew 23:23
23
"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you tithe mint and
dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law,
justice and mercy and faith; these you ought to have done, without
neglecting the others.

Corinthians 8:1-15
1
We want you to know, brethren, about the grace of God which has been shown
in the churches of Macedo'nia, 2 for in a severe test of
affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have
overflowed in a wealth of liberality on their part. 3
For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their
means, of their own free will, 4 begging us earnestly
for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints-- 5
and this, not as we expected, but first they gave themselves to the Lord
and to us by the will of God. 6 Accordingly we have
urged Titus that as he had already made a beginning, he should also
complete among you this gracious work. 7 Now as you
excel in everything--in faith, in utterance, in knowledge, in all
earnestness, and in your love for us--see that you excel in this gracious
work also. 8 I say this not as a command, but to prove
by the earnestness of others that your love also is genuine. 9
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich,
yet for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become
rich. 10 And in this matter I give my advice: it is best
for you now to complete what a year ago you began not only to do but to
desire, 11 so that your readiness in desiring it may be
matched by your completing it out of what you have. 12
For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a man
has, not according to what he has not. 13 I do not mean
that others should be eased and you burdened, 14 but
that as a matter of equality your abundance at the present time should
supply their want, so that their abundance may supply your want, that
there may be equality. 15 As it is written, "He who
gathered much had nothing over, and he who gathered little had no lack."
Romans 15:26, 27
26
For Macedo'nia and Acha'ia have been pleased to make some contribution for
the poor among the saints at Jerusalem; 27
they were pleased to do it, and indeed they are in debt to them, for if
the Gentiles have come to share in their spiritual blessings, they ought
also to be of service to them in material blessings.
