Unity in the Body of Christ
The church is one body with many members,
called from every nation, kindred, tongue, and people. In Christ we are a
new creation; distinctions of race, culture, learning, and nationality,
and differences between high and low, rich and poor, male and female, must
not be divisive among us. We are all equal in Christ, who by one Spirit
has bonded us into one fellowship with Him and with one another; we are to
serve and be served without partiality or reservation. Through the
revelation of Jesus Christ in the Scriptures we share the same faith and
hope, and reach out in one witness to all. This unity has its source in
the oneness of the triune God, who has adopted us as His children.
Romans
12:4, 5
4
For as in one body we have many members, and all the members do not have
the same function, 5 so we,
though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of
another.
1
Corinthians 12:12-14
12
For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of
the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13
For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--Jews or Greeks,
slaves or free--and all were made to drink of one Spirit. 14
For the body does not consist of one member but of many.
Matthew 28:19, 20
19
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name
of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe all
that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of
the age."
Psalms 133:1

A Song of Ascents. Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell
in unity!
2
Corinthians 5:16, 17
16
From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a human point of view; even
though we once regarded Christ from a human point of view, we regard him
thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if any one is in Christ, he is a
new creation; the old has passed away, behold, the new has come.
Acts 17:26, 27
26
And he made from one every nation of men to live on all the face of the
earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their
habitation, 27 that they should seek
God, in the hope that they might feel after him and find him. Yet he is
not far from each one of us
Galatians
3:27, 29
27
For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
29
And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according
to promise.
Colossians 3:10-15
10
and have put on the new nature, which is being renewed in knowledge after
the image of its creator. 11 Here
there cannot be Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian,
Scyth'ian, slave, free man, but Christ is all, and in all.
12 Put on then, as God's chosen
ones, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, and
patience, 13 forbearing one another
and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the
Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything
together in perfect harmony. 15 And
let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were
called in the one body. And be thankful.
Ephesians 4:14-16; 4:1-6
14
so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about
with every wind of doctrine, by the cunning of men, by their craftiness in
deceitful wiles. 15 Rather, speaking
the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the
head, into Christ, 16 from whom the
whole body, joined and knit together by every joint with which it is
supplied, when each part is working properly, makes bodily growth and
upbuilds itself in love.
1 I
therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the
calling to which you have been called, 2
with all lowliness and meekness, with patience, forbearing one another in
love, 3 eager to maintain the unity
of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4
There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope
that belongs to your call, 5 one
Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one
God and Father of us all, who is above all and through all and in all.
John 17:20-23
20
"I do not pray for these only, but also for those who believe in me
through their word, 21 that
they may all be one; even as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that
they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that thou hast sent
me. 22 The glory which thou
hast given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are
one, 23 I in them and thou in
me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that
thou hast sent me and hast loved them even as thou hast loved me.
