Matthew 6 -
5
"And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they
love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners,
that they may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have
received their reward. 6 But
when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your
Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will
reward you. 7 "And in praying
do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that
they will be heard for their many words. 8
Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you
ask him. 9 Pray then like
this: Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will
be done, On earth as it is in heaven. 11
Give us this day our daily bread; 12
And forgive us our debts, As we also have forgiven our debtors;
13 And lead us not into
temptation, But deliver us from evil. 14
For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father also
will forgive you; 15 but if
you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father
forgive your trespasses.
Matthew 21 -
22 And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if
you have faith."
Matthew 26 -
36 Then Jesus went with them to a place called
Gethsem'ane, and he said to his disciples, "Sit here, while I go
yonder and pray." 37 And
taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zeb'edee, he began to be
sorrowful and troubled. 38
Then he said to them, "My soul is very sorrowful, even to death;
remain here, and watch with me." 39
And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, "My
Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless,
not as I will, but as thou wilt."
Luke 2 -
36 And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of
Phan'u-el, of the tribe of Asher; she was of a great age, having
lived with her husband seven years from her virginity,
37 and as a widow till she was
eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with
fasting and prayer night and day. 38
And coming up at that very hour she gave thanks to God, and spoke of
him to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.
Luke 6 -
6
On another sabbath, when he entered the synagogue and taught, a man
was there whose right hand was withered. 7
And the scribes and the Pharisees watched him, to see whether he
would heal on the sabbath, so that they might find an accusation
against him. 8 But he knew
their thoughts, and he said to the man who had the withered hand,
"Come and stand here." And he rose and stood there.
9 And Jesus said to them, "I
ask you, is it lawful on the sabbath to do good or to do harm, to
save life or to destroy it?" 10
And he looked around on them all, and said to him, "Stretch out your
hand." And he did so, and his hand was restored.
11 But they were filled with fury and discussed
with one another what they might do to Jesus.
12 In these days he went out to the mountain to
pray; and all night he continued in prayer to God.
Luke 18 -
9
He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that
they were righteous and despised others: 10
"Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the
other a tax collector. 11 The
Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank thee that
I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even
like this tax collector. 12 I
fast twice a week, I give tithes of all that I get.'
13 But the tax collector,
standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but
beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!'
14 I tell you, this man went
down to his house justified rather than the other; for every one who
exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be
exalted." |
